HealthEStudent continues the very positive and highly appreciated legacy of the longtime HealthEPupil program. HealthEPupil demonstrated that primary care pediatricians can, by working in a coordinated manner with therapists, support effective remediation of the types of behavioral and developmental challenges faced by a growing portion of the school age kids in our communities. HealthEPupil was sparked by a lack of and timely access to psychiatrists, who were often a lead referral from school psychologists, therapists and family physicians. Participating primary care pediatricians invoked the expertise of supporting psychiatrists according to the diagnoses and care requirements of each unique situation.

NOTE: HealthEPupil concluded as a formal, grant-supported specific care program after May, 2025. Contact your pediatrician or therapist directly to request or continue coordinated care. Pediatricians are licensed in most settings to write orders for prescription many (those Rx "not scheduled") medications when required in conjunction with remediation of developmental or behavioral issues arising in school or other settings.

C4UH was proud to assist HealthEPupil, an innovative project serving families with children, teens and young adults.  This project uses specialized teams of pediatricians, therapists, and other affiliated healthcare experts working in an innovative collaboration to achieve timely, helpful support for behavioral and developmental concerns. A growing portion of children encounter "speed bumps" during each school year. Many are set back because it can be difficult to access helpful support. Leading community pediatricians designed a way to respond faster be engaging accessible resources working as a team. National and state leaders in pediatric health offered support and funding to create this special program in San Diego. The vision is timely response so that children and families can avoid the disruptions when children are overwhelmed by struggles with their school journey. The answer is an accessible and coordinated blend of services, customized for the needs of each patient and their family. The name of this miracle is HealthEPupil.

HealthEPupil was led by caring pediatricians from Children's Healthcare Medical Associates in San Diego, CA.
